Local clothing manufacturer BetaBrand—home of the cordaround and metallic tracksuits, the latter a favorite among burners trying to discover themselves at Black Rock—workshops many of its new designs by throwing them on BetaBrand.com under the ThinkTank feature. A recent success of this Kickstarterish platform is a new line of Gay Jeans. Allow us to explain.
The pants’ dark denim, cut into a skinny jean for women and a slim cut for men, have a secret hidden deep inside the fabric. As these jeans fade over wear and washings, an internal core of rainbow colored threads begins to emerge, slowing bringing their inner iris front and center. It’s just like coming out, but without the confused parents or your church’s condemnation.
If you’re too impatient to wait, an alternate version comes pre-faded. We suggest pairing these with the soon to be installed rainbow crosswalks in the Castro.
