The Bay Area is home to world-famous bridges. Here are the top 7, ranked.

Carquinez

7. Carquinez Bridge (eastbound): Sad, ugly twin to its prettier westbound sister. Alas.

Dumbarton

6. Dumbarton Bridge: The name says it all. Not one of our favorites.

San Mateo-Hayward Bridge

5. San Mateo-Hayward Bridge: What it lacks in design, it more than makes up for in heft: according to Wikipedia, "it's the longest bridge in the Bay Area and the 25th longest in the world."

Carquinez Bridge

4. Carquinez (westbound): Sleek bridge, yes, but you can also see the C&H Sugar factory from it. Sweeeeet.

Eastern Span Bay Bridge

3. Bay Bridge (eastern span): A stunner, yes. But also an attempt at replicating Santiago Calatrava's sundial bridge in Reddin. Still, though, we give it high marks for unabashed modernity. Well done.

Golden Gate Bridge

2. Golden Gate Bridge: So fabulous and (obviously) world-famous, even deer like it

Oakland Bay Bridge

1. Bay Bridge (western span):  Bay LightsEmperor Norton. Steel. Concrete. Perfection.
