Cutting-edge design. The fusion of art and tech. Banksy. Those are only thee of the many highlights coming your way at the inaugural Art Silicon Valley/San Francisco (Art SV/SF). Art SV/SF is Art Miami’s first international, contemporary art fair on the West Coast. This must-attend event for art lovers is coming to the San Mateo County Event Center over Columbus Day weekend (October 9 -12).
The fair promises to be a true smorgasbord of art, with 70 highly respected galleries and art institutions representing 750 artists from 42 countries. Along with investment-quality works of art from big names of the 20th and 21st centuries, the fair will also spotlight emerging, mid-career, and cutting-edge talent. The weekend will also include on-site installation projects, interactive art, artist talks, and fair tours, ensuring that all art lovers will find something to tickle their fancy. To top it off, the fair includes a special exhibition of monumental Banksy works from his 2013 NYC residency. Yes, Banksy.
And since this is Silicon Valley, the fair also partnered with LISA (Leaders in Software Art) to bring digital art to the tech-savvy communities of the Bay Area. ZERO1, a tech art non-profit in San Jose, will mount John Slepian’s installation Transcendence, in which the artist uses a hacked toy brainwave sensor, electronics, and actuators to levitate—talk about a must-see. To entertain little art lovers, Hero of Color City Kids Center is providing a playroom to introduce young Picassos to art projects as well as the new animated film Hero of Color City.
To get the luxe experience, join Art Silicon Valley/San Francisco for their Platinum VIP Preview and VIP Preview on Thursday, October 9, featuring event sponsors Maserati, Graff Diamonds, and Ruinart Champagne. The elegant evening will benefit Shipyard Trust for the Arts (STAR) and the Djerassi Foundation. General admissions runs October 10-12, artsvfair.com
